Ruth Calloway served as managing editor of The Brookline Standard for seventeen years, overseeing the daily operations of the newsroom and maintaining the publication's editorial standards. She died in 2025 at the age of sixty-one.
Calloway joined the Standard after more than a decade in various editing roles at regional publications. She was known among her colleagues for her attention to detail, her equanimity under pressure, and her genuine commitment to the reporters in her charge.
She wrote occasional reflective pieces for the Standard's commentary section. She was a lifelong resident of the region. A tribute appears in these pages.
